Dental Implants

Laugh, Speak, Eat, and Live With Confidence in Your Smile Again

Throughout the rolling hills and wetlands, the beautiful forests, and the prosperous farmlands of Illinois, the people in the Land of Lincoln love to smile. If a part of your smile is missing, you may feel as though a part of your identity is missing too. Here at Oral & Facial Surgeons of Illinois, we offer a solution that will keep The Prairie State smiling: dental implants.

A dental implant is a versatile tooth replacement option that can be used to restore one or more missing or failing teeth. For patients missing many teeth, dental implants can support a permanent denture in one or both dental arches. To learn more about this procedure, visit our full-arch restoration page, or contact us to see if you’re a candidate.

The simple three-part design of a dental implant provides you with a natural-looking and functional solution. Each part of the implant serves an important purpose for the overall success of your restoration:

  • The medical-grade titanium screw replaces your tooth root and fuses with your jaw bone to provide the proper foundation for the other two pieces.
  • The metal abutment connects to the titanium screw and allows us to place the prosthesis.
  • The prosthetic crown is the final piece to be placed, and it is explicitly designed to look and function just like your other teeth.

The Top 5 Benefits of Dental Implants

  1. The stability of a dental implant makes it easier to chew and eat your favorite foods.
  2. A dental implant is cared for just like a natural tooth—with regular brushing and flossing.
  3. The implant post fuses with your jaw bone, helping to promote stability and improve the overall structure of your jaw.
  4. With proper care, a dental implant can last a lifetime without ever needing to be replaced.
  5. With a complete smile, you can restore your confidence and get back to feeling like you again.

The Procedure

All of our board-certified doctors have undergone special training in the safe administration of anesthesia. In addition, they have all undergone a rigorous peer evaluation process in order to achieve and maintain board certification status with the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). When you visit our practice, you can expect to receive the utmost professionalism and attentive care that you deserve every time.

Before Surgery

When you come in for your consultation, your doctor will thoroughly examine your condition and health history, which will help him design a treatment plan specific to your needs. During this initial appointment, you will be able to discuss your goals for treatment, have your questions answered, choose your form of anesthesia or sedation, and go over instructions for your care. Your doctor may take 3D CBCT scans of your face or mouth, if necessary.

The Day of Surgery

Be sure to follow the pre-operative instructions closely to ensure your procedure goes as smoothly as possible. On the day of your procedure, your doctor will administer the selected form of anesthesia. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, your doctor will carefully open the gums, insert the titanium screw into the empty tooth socket, and place stitches, if necessary. In more rare cases, he will also connect the abutment to the screw, which would then poke through your gums during the healing period. More often, however, this piece is placed at a later date.

After Surgery

When the implant post has adequately fused with your jaw bone, an abutment will be added to the implant post. Then, your restorative dentist will create and place your custom-made crown. This crown is specially designed to match the size, shape, and color of your other teeth, making it look completely natural. You may be given a temporary crown to wear during recovery until the permanent crown is ready.

How Much Does a Dental Implant Cost?

The cost of a dental implant varies depending on how many implants are needed, if additional procedures are required, such as general extraction or bone grafting, the choice of anesthesia, and the details of your insurance coverage. By calling our office and scheduling a consultation, we can provide you with an accurate cost estimate and discuss payment options for your convenience.

"I’ve been coming to the Oral and Facial Surgeons of Illinois for about 20 years. I’ve had several implants and bone grafts, and they’ve all been perfect. I’m just happy with them. My recovery has been so well planned and short duration that I just have felt comfortable with these implants from the very first. The staff are professional and kind, and the ambiance in the office is just very nice. I love coming here. I think Dr. Woolbright is a wonderful, painless dentist. He’s like one of our family now. If you need dental implants, this is the place to come — Oral and Facial Surgeons of Illinois."

"I came into Oral and Facial Surgeons of Illinois to get dental implants. I have had no problems whatsoever. I've had seven implants. I’ve had no pain involved in mine at all. Dr. Fischer was great. He’s very gentle, and he’s got a very good personality. He’s got a really, really good trained team. They know what they’re doing, and it works. Give it a try, or talk to somebody that’s had this done face to face, and they will tell you the same thing."

"I broke off a tooth, and I broke it off so deep that there was no way they could do a crown or anything on it — there wasn’t enough left of the tooth itself — so I ended up doing a tooth implant. It was fantastic working with Dr. Woolbright. His chairside manner was very good. The procedure was a little better than I was expecting. My recovery was good. Dr. Woolbright and the assistants or team — they make me feel at ease. They’re friendly. I keep coming back to Oral and Facial Surgeons of Illinois because of the quality of the service."

"Well, I’ve been coming here for 14 years. I’ve had one bone graft and five implants. When I first came in, I was awfully nervous, but the team here calmed my nerves and made me feel very comfortable. The procedure was better than I expected — not as long as I thought it would be,and it all went very well. My dental implants feel like natural teeth. Dr. Woolbright is amazing. He makes you feel very comfortable. He’s very laid-back, has a great sense of humor. The staff is also wonderful. They are very caring and concerned about you. They take their time with each patient once they bring you in the room and explain what’s going to happen also. I would absolutely come back to Oral and Facial Surgeons of Illinois."
